About
The mission of the Hunger Intervention Program (HIP) is to increase food security for underserved populations in North King County through nutritious meals, educational programs, and advocacy.
Created in 1998 as a volunteer-run organization, HIP became its own 501(c)(3) in 2008. Today, HIP operates a range of direct service programs to address childhood hunger, food insecurity among adults, and the unique nutrition needs of seniors and unhoused neighbors. HIP offers cooking/nutrition education classes and food justice workshops to inspire healthy eating and shopping behaviors and to build community power. HIP also actively advocates for policy-level changes to address the root causes of hunger.
HIP is a place-based nonprofit rooted in the Lake City neighborhood in northeast Seattle. HIP provides services in north Seattle neighborhoods and Lake Forest Park, Shoreline, and Bothell.
